Registered Art Therapist

Reilly Smith is a registered Arts Therapist with a Master’s in Professional Studies in Art Therapy from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In 2012, she was awarded the Duperreault Fellowship Award for her studies in Addictions. Reilly aims to provide a creative approach to exploring emotional, behavioral and interpersonal issues. She utilizes a mixture of creative approaches including visual art, creative writing, storytelling, play, movement, and mindfulness to assist in this therapeutic process.

Reilly's experience is broad, having worked with adults, children, individuals and groups in various settings including inpatient and outpatient medical units, psychiatric and rehabilitation facilities, primary and upper special education schools, hospice and palliative care programmes, and private practice. Additionally, she has used art therapy while volunteering with children, adolescents, and adults throughout New York City and Bermuda.

Art Therapy and the art making process can be used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, and reduce and resolve conflicts and distress. Ultimately, Reilly hopes to share with others the enormous benefits of creating art as a healing and life-enhancing process.

Reilly is a member of the American Art Therapy Association and the American Counseling Association.
