Solstice to Host 10th Anniversary Open House with Free Wellness Workshops

Hamilton, Bermuda – January 24, 2025

Solstice, Bermuda's premier mental health and wellness centre, is excited to announce its 10th Anniversary with a special Open House event on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. This milestone event celebrates a decade of commitment to enhancing and supporting the island's mental health and well-being and fostering meaningful collaborations with partner organizations. 

In honour of this significant achievement, Solstice is offering the community an engaging and educational experience through a series of free workshops led by its team of clinical experts. These workshops are designed to provide attendees with practical tools, valuable insights, and opportunities to connect with the professionals who have been at the forefront of mental health care in Bermuda for the past 10 years.

This celebratory event underscores Solstice's dedication to empowering individuals and strengthening community ties as it continues its mission of providing exceptional mental wellness support for all.

Reflecting on 10 Years of Impact

Since its founding in 2014, Solstice has become a vital mental health resource for individuals, children and families, and community organizations in Bermuda. 

This 10-year milestone is a testament to the dedication of our team and the trust of our community," said Dr. Eloïse Pitts Crick, co-founder and Clinical Psychologist. "We are proud to have been a part of Bermuda's journey toward greater mental health awareness and well-being. This event celebrates that progress and a commitment to the work still ahead."

Kelly Madeiros, Solstice co-founder and Managing Director, added, "The past decade has been an incredible journey of growth and learning. At Solstice, we've built not only a centre of care but a community of support. Our 10th Anniversary is an opportunity to thank Bermuda and to invite everyone to take part in shaping the future of mental wellness on the island."

Looking Ahead: Exciting New Services

As part of the celebration, Solstice will unveil a suite of new programs to expand its support for Bermudians, including mental health initiatives targeting workplace well-being, cognitive health and wellness, and enhanced trauma recovery programs.

"This event is not just about looking back—it's about looking forward," said Ms. Maderios. "We're introducing services that address the unique needs of our community, ensuring we remain at the forefront of mental health care in Bermuda."

Let’s Talk About Sex: Sexuality and its impact on Healthy Relationships
Presenters: Zul Lee, Dr Jessica Gordon and Miriam Shaya King
An engaging conversation about the importance of open discussions around sexuality and its impact on health and relationships. Attendees will explore common challenges individuals and couples face while learning integrative strategies to foster healthier, more fulfilling connections. With insights from Dr Jessica Gordon on the "Effects of Fertility and Postpartum Challenges on Intimacy" and Miriam Shaya-King on "How Relationship Dynamics Impact Intimacy."

Breaking the Cycle: Understanding and Addressing Developmental Trauma in Children
Presenters: Dr. Elizabeth McManus, supported by the Growing Minds Team Members

Gain insights into the effects of early adverse experiences on a child's development. This session emphasizes the importance of creating supportive environments to help Bermuda's children heal and thrive.

Fake It Till You Make It: Understanding and Managing Distress Intolerance
Presenters: Dr. Shawnee Basden and Topaz Webson

Learn about distress intolerance—what it is, how it affects everyday life, and practical tools to manage negative emotions. This session offers valuable strategies for navigating life's challenges in healthier, more constructive ways.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Launching The Longevity Centre @ Solstice:  Come learn about our new Service at Solstice lead by Dr Shawnee Basden The Longevity Centre at Solstice is a wellness hub designed to support Longevity and maximize cognitive performance. Our innovative approach incorporates the latest evidence-based research on mild cognitive impairment (MCI), dementia, sleep difficulties and cognitive changes related to hormones, medication, and life transitions, as well as those experiencing a head injury, such as a stroke or concussion.

Nutrition and Mental Health – Nerseh Douglas, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist specializing in hormonal balance, weight loss, and gut health, with over a decade of experience in the field will provide a short presentation to discuss the link between our nutrition and mental health and how making small changes with some of our daily habits can be life changing. Solstice strongly believes that connecting physical and mental health is an optimal way to enhance life.
